Bag a bargain as Beccles Antiques Street Market returns
Bargain hunters are in for a treat as the Beccles Antiques Street Market returns on Sunday, May 1.
Now in its seventh year, the market will play host to a hundred general and specialist dealers selling a wide range of good quality antiques and collectables including furniture, silver, china, linen, jewellery, books, clocks, retro and vintage design/clothing and decorative items.
And as well as selling antiques, the dealers will be happy to share their knowledge and expertise with shoppers.
Kate Lee from Blyburgate Antiques and Christine Pinsent from Saxons, both in Beccles, started the market in 2009 with just over 40 dealers and were overwhelmed with the support it attracted.
They said: “We are now in a position where we have to operate an ongoing waiting list.
“The enthusiasm from both the dealers and buyers has been primary in making the market not only a success but a market with a great atmosphere.”
Due to its popularity and following requests from the traders, a second date was added to the calendar in 2011, with this year’s second market being held on Sunday, August 28.
The antiques market, which will run from 8am to 4.30pm, will once again be hosting its own ‘Bargain Hunt’.
A cash float will be provided by the organisers and matched by Durrants Auctioneers, for two teams to purchase items from the stalls.
These will then be auctioned by Durrants and all the profits will be donated to East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices.
The organisers will also be making a donation once again to Help For Heroes.
Many of the local shops, restaurants and bars will be open to offer shoppers a place to take a break and rest their feet and there will also be catering stalls at the market, including a hog roast, artisan street food, ice cream and hot drinks.
The centre of town will be closed to traffic during the day, re-opening at 6pm, and admission to the market is free.
