An appeal against a decision by Waveney District Council to refuse planning permission for the construction of a windfarm in Barsham has been postponed.

The appeal, brought by Stamford Renewables, was scheduled to be heard at an informal hearing in the Public Hall at Beccles on November 8, 9 and 10. However, the Planning Inspectorate has asked the applicant to provide further information relating to the environmental impact of the proposed development.

Because this additional detail, once provided, would then need to be advertised and consulted on as part of the formal planning process, and because of the brief time available to fulfil this requirement, a deferment has been requested by the appellant and agreed by the Planning Inspectorate.

At this stage, no new date has been set for the hearing and it is not immediately clear how long it will take the appellant to complete this additional work.

The council is now writing to local residents, parish councils and other stakeholders to advise them of the postponement.

A spokesperson for the council said: “It is unfortunate that this latest development will prolong the uncertainty for residents. However, this matter is completely out of the council’s control and we will now await confirmation of a new date for the hearing.”
