Norwich had its dragons, then Bungay had its chickens.

And now Beccles has its very own art trail - thanks to the handiwork of local primary school pupils.

Children at Albert Pye Primary School and Ravensmere Infant School have created owl sculptures which will be spending the summer at businesses around Beccles including The Toy Box and the Beccles Station cafe.

Each class created their own masterpiece to make a trail around the town, which has been organised by art co-ordinator Rachel Goodwin

“We loved the dragon trail in Norwich and thought it would be good to create a more local version of that,” she said. “The children really enjoyed making them and the Year 4 pupils wrote a leaflet to go with the trail as well.

“They’re all really proud of their work.”

The owls took each class about a month to make and each represent a different topic the children have studied in the last school year.

Mrs Goodwin said: “All the pupils did a little something to stick on their owls and let their imaginations run wild.

“I’m really impressed by the quality of them and it has turned out to be a really successful project.”

And while it is the first time the schools have done a trail, it is likely to become an annual event, as Mrs Goodwin said the pupils have already been asking what animals they will be making next year.

To take part in the trail, pick up a leaflet from Beccles Library, collect the secret letters on each owl and return to the library to enter your completed form into a prize draw.

You can also vote for your favourite owl, and all votes must be cast by September 11.
