A Beccles writer who was left with a severe brain injury after being involved in a near-fatal accident as a child has been nominated for a national award.
Gracie Wright, 31, from Beccles is up for a prize at the Prince’s Trust and TK Maxx Celebrate Success Awards.
She is just one of three people across the UK to be nominated for the NatWest Enterprise award.
It comes after she won at the East of England ceremony a few months ago.
The awards will be held at the Palladium in London on March 15, and the ceremony will be hosted by Ant and Dec.
Ms Wright experienced post-trauma amnesia after being hit by a car at the age of 11, and had to build back her memories, re-establishing relationships and learn to read and write again.
She was bullied and suffered with depression.
Later she began working as a nanny where she found she was helping children and families overcome issues which she understood so well and she began writing children’s picture books.
She turned to The Prince’s Trust Enterprise programme for help, where she was connected with a mentor and said she “felt free, with new hope” and she was able to discuss her ideas with professionals.
Ms Wright said: “The Prince’s Trust was a net which caught me before I was able to fall into a destructive mind-set.
“It gave me the confidence to go on at a point when I had hit a wall. When The Trust stepped in I had new hope and freedom to share my ideas with professionals and move forward.”
Andy Gray, managing director of corporate and commercial banking at Natwest said: “Gracie has become a creative and successful businesswoman, overcoming many challenges along the way. What a fantastic achievement.”
The Prince’s Trust & TK Maxx Celebrate Success Awards, now in their thirteenth year, recognise young people who have overcome issues such as abuse, drug addiction, homelessness and depression.
Also nominated from East Anglia for an award is Bradley Bebbington, 20, from Norwich who is up for the Delta Airlines Rising Star award.
