Two schools in Beccles and Bungay have held a Congolese Exhibition in celebration of their links with children in Africa.

St Benet’s and St Edmund’s Catholic Schools both sponsor children to allow them to attend the School For Peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

And in order to help pupils here understand what life might be like in the Congo, children spent a week learning about different aspects of the vast country. Working in house groups, one class made a rainforest wall covered in plants and animals made of paper, while others made masks made from papier-mâché. The children reported to visitors how much they enjoyed their work and visitors reported that they were amazed by the depth of knowledge that the children showed.

The exhibition, which was visited by Bishop Alan Hopes, the mayors of Beccles and Bungay and many parents and governors, showcased artwork of the wildlife, masks and costumes, songs and dances of the Congo.

Chairman of governors Helen Kirby said: “What an absolutely wonderful opportunity for the children. It was great to see the different topics explored, many of them directly linked to the curriculum.”

The sale of refreshments raised £73 which will go to support the School for Peace.
