A BECCLES man has been given one of the highest positions within the county's army cadet force.

Mark Galley has been promoted to Suffolk regimental sergeant major (RSM) and plans to combine his new role with recruiting more adults to assist units across the Waveney Valley and beyond.

Mark has been involved with the cadet force for more than 25 years.

He said: “This position is some-thing that I have been hoping for for a very long time.

“I have worked extremely

hard over the years and have worked my way up through the ranks.

“It's an ambition come true, and I am really looking forward to the new responsibilities that go with the job. The regimental sergeant major is the highest non-commissioned officer in Suffolk, and, although the RSM is primarily responsible for maintaining standards and discipline throughout the county, he is also in charge of training all the new adults.”

Mark was handed the reins by John Graham, from Diss, at the Thetford weekend training

centre.

He said: “Having served in the Royal Military Police, and being in the cadet force, it's great to see so much dedication that someone like Mark gives to the cadets.

“I wish him all the very best for the future.”

New adult leaders are being sought to help the units in Beccles, Bungay, Halesworth, Southwold, Leiston and Lowestoft.
