A Beccles-based charity is joining forces with its Spanish counterpart in a bid to “create and foster a spirit of understanding among the people of the world”.

Beccles and District Lions Club has officially twinned with Vera and Districts Lions Club in Costa Almeria.

Lion President Chris Ramsden said: “Naturally Beccles Lions Club has extended hand of friendship by inviting Vera and District Lions Club to celebrate our 49th Charter Evening in May.

“This is a new venture for Beccles Lions although we feel it will be a worthwhile project to foster the spirit of understanding among the peoples of the world and long may it continue.”

Membership chairman Keith Moore added: “By establishing a formal twinning relationship we have the opportunity to cooperate on a variety of projects, such as increasing membership for both clubs and share ideas and to learn from each other’s cultures and customs.”
