Over 100 people enjoyed a special breakfast hosted by the Beccles Friends of Cancer Research UK.
The annual event, held in the town’s Public Hall yesterday, traditionally raises hundreds of pounds for the charity.
And this year looks set to be no exception, as the hall was full of people enjoying a full English, or a lighter option in exchange for a donation.
Friends treasurer Rosie Riches said: “We’ve been running the breakfasts for about 15 years, and last year we served 150 people.
“We already had 110 people booked in for a breakfast this year, plus people who just drop in for something to eat.
“I’d like to thank all the people who volunteered on the day, because it wouldn’t be possible to run the breakfast without their support.
“And we’ve had a lot of help from the community, with Bob Knights the butcher donating food and Tesco as well.
“It has been a real community effort. We usually raise about £900, so to get somewhere near that this year would be amazing.”
Among the volunteers helping to serve the breakfasts was Beccles Tesco’s Community Champion Natalie Clements.
She said: “Tesco started supporting the event last year, and this year we’ve donated gift vouchers for them to buy some supplies.
“It’s really nice to see so many familiar faces from the community enjoying a breakfast and to know that Beccles is supporting Cancer Research.”
One of those supporting the event was Beccles deputy mayor Graham Catchpole.
He said: “The Beccles Friends of Cancer Research UK are an excellent group of people who do so much in the community and I wish them well in all their fundraising.”
