A head boy is laying down a challenge to his fellow students to go the extra mile in their school's popular fundraiser.

Elliott Fenn is a Sixth Form student at Sir John Leman, and having taken part in the Leman 4 Life charity run every year, he wants to do something special to mark his final year at the school.

So he has organised a 'Triathlon for Life', and plans to swim 50 lengths of Beccles Lido, cycle 50km around the countryside and make it back to the school in time to start the annual 5k run around the school grounds.

'It's something I have always competed in because I'm quite sporty. I've always enjoyed running and competing,' he said.'It's a really good day, everyone in the school has to be involved in some way and a lot of people raise a lot of money for it.'

Now head boy at the school, he hopes to inspire younger students to take up the mantle.

'I thought I would lay down a marker and maybe in future years other students will do extra things as well,' he said.

Elliott hopes to raise £500 from his triathlon efforts as the school aims to reach a total of £50,000 raised since their annual race began. And he has even managed to convince five of his teachers to join in the triathlon.

'I'm buzzing. It should be really good, and I'd like to maybe leave a legacy for future head boys.'

The run is being coordinated by teacher Kirsten Remer, organised with help from Beccles Friends of Cancer Research UK and Bungay Black Dog Running Club and local businesses are also lending their support. She said: 'In our seventh year Elliott is very keen to help us smash through our £50,000 target by raising £500 through his own efforts and encouraging others to do the same! Elliott has always been a front-runner in our Leman 4 Life fun runs over the years, giving staff stiff competition!'

Elliott and the teachers will be taking on their triathlon, including the Leman 4 Life run on June 28.
