A Beccles-based charity has donated £500 to provide much-needed funds to a volunteer blood delivery service which saves lives across the region.

Beccles Rotary Club presented the generous sum to SERV Norfolk Blood Bikes to help the organisation continue its vital work.

A club spokesman said: “Club president John Warburton handed over the cheque to Bill Farrow, who had recently presented a talk to the club with one of his colleagues about the valuable work of this service.

“Funds in the club’s charitable trust are raised through the year by the members, but particularly by the annual Beccles Cycle for Life charity ride, from which the proceeds are shared with the East Anglian Air Ambulance.”

This year’s Cycle for Life event attracted hundreds of cyclists of all ages and abilities.

It is estimated the event raised around £6,000 which the club will continue to feed back into the local community and benefit organisations in need.
