The committee behind a campaign to build a new skate park in Beccles is appealing for support from the community.
Information packs including the skate park’s history, a new vision, and design drawings have been sent out to businesses in Beccles in the hope of drumming up support and donations for the scheme.
And the Beccles Skatepark Committee has received its first offer this week, with Durrants pledging to help with the fundraising.
The group are aiming to raise £150,000 to replace the town’s existing wooden skate park in Common Lane, which is old and becoming dangerous, and replace it with a modern concrete park which will be easier to maintain.
Nik Rose, chairman of the committee, said: “We sent out the information packs to local businesses just before Christmas and Durrants were the first to come back. To have their support is fantastic.

“Donations towards the project would be brilliant but we are also looking for support from businesses so we can show our fundraisers that this is something the community really wants.
“It’s also nice for the lads who use the skate park to see that people want to help them.”

Designs for the new facility have been drawn up by two skate park manufacturing companies and the committee thinks £150,000 will provide them with a new park to be proud of.
Dominic Parravani, business development manager at Durrants said: “As a local business we get a lot of people asking for our support, but what really impressed me about the pack we received from Nik was the level of professionalism that had gone into it.
“I was very impressed with what they are trying to do for the benefit of the community.
“We are involved with the local football teams and the skate park is all part of the area down near the common and it is something that will continue to make Beccles thrive.
“We have offered our support in lots of different ways and have offered to help with the fundraising.”
The skate park fundraising pot received a boost at the end of last year when three cheques totalling £650 were presented to the group, along with an extra £500 raised through the committee’s second Skate Fete event.
The committee is in the process of planning another big fundraising event for the summer.
