Students in Beccles will be putting on their running shoes to raise vital income for Cancer Research UK.
‘Leman 4 Life’ is Sir John Leman High School’s version of the charity’s famous ‘Race for Life’.
Students and staff will be walking or running 5km around the school’s field and collecting as much sponsorship as they can.
Helen Horn, food technology teacher at the school, who is organising the event said: “I know of so many people that have been affected by this awful disease and wanted to do something to help.
“Many of the students can’t make it to the official event in Norwich but are really keen to get involved and raise money, so we decided to have our own event here.”
The run, which is a private event, involves male and female students from all years of the school. They are aiming to raise over £2,000 of vital funds for cancer research.
Ms Horn added: “I have been stunned by the positive response from so many students wanting to take part and raise money. It has also really helped to have the full support of the headmaster, my colleagues, the local Beccles Committee and members of the Black Dog Running Club in Bungay. I really hope the event will be a success.”
The school is still looking for sponsorship from local companies to help with water, contributions towards refreshments and items for goodie bags.
Paul Fleet, area manager for Cancer Research UK said: “I think it’s fantastic that Helen and the school are putting on this event. It’s wonderful to see that young people want to raise vital money for cancer research and also take part in this type of event. I would like to thank Helen and everyone involved in putting on ‘Leman 4 Life’.
“Cancer Research UK relies on the generosity and hard work of individuals like Helen and I hope the people of Beccles will give her plenty of support in his fundraising efforts.”
The event is taking place on Tuesday, July 12.
