A TOTAL of 73 designs have been submitted in the competition to find a cover for the brochure being compiled to mark the centenary of St Benet's Roman Catholic Minster at Beccles.

The Beccles and Bungay Journal has been backing the competition, in which the entries are being judged this weekend.

Organiser Jamie Fenn said most of the entries had come from pupils at St Benet's Primary School, though there are no entries in the 12-16 age group.

The overall winning design will be incorporated into the front cover of the commemorative brochure, and the second and third best will be used on posters. All the entries can be viewed by the public at the church hall in Ringsfield Road tomorrow, from 2pm when refreshments will be available, before they are judged by five members from other churches in Beccles.

The winner will receive £50, with the runner-up getting £25 and third place £10. The result will be published in next week's Journal.

Meanwhile the church is looking for former pupils of St Benet's School to attend a school re-union on July 5, the day of the Fete of Faith, the main celebration of the centenary.. A book of attendance will be available to sign on the day, and it will then be stored in the church archives.
