A commemorative exhibition celebrating 100 years since the end of the First World War is set to be staged in Bungay.

‘Bungay at War - The Home Front’ will run from Friday, October 19 until Sunday, October 28, at St Mary’s Church.

Organiser Chris Reeve said: “The displays encompass a variety of themes relating to the war years and include photographs of many of the Bungay men who enlisted in 1914.

“Military officials arranged for studio photographs to be taken of the recruits in uniform, so their families had something to cherish once their loved ones were fighting overseas. Many of the photographs were made in the Bungay studio of Benjamin Clarke, in Earsham Street.”

Mr Reeve added: “The exhibition also deals with the Second World War, focusing on themes of evacuees and prisoners of war.”

The exhibition is free to enjoy and open between 10am and 4pm.
