East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) has relaunched its ‘Be a Name in our Frame’ campaign to help recruit volunteers.

The scheme is running until Sunday, October 15, and encourages people to get pictured in a frame at one of its 25 shops across the region by volunteering.

And EACH’s shop in Market Place, Bungay, is looking for two or three volunteers to help sort stock and serve customers on Saturdays, people to sort stock, steam crumpled clothes and serve customers on Thursdays and Fridays and someone to provide general assistance on Tuesday mornings.

Ros Fry, Bungay’s EACH shop manager, said: “I’m lucky to have a fantastic team of volunteers and they all enjoy coming to the shop, getting to know one another and our regular customers. We’re always on the lookout for new people to join us, though, however much time they may be able to give – please come and say hi.”

The charity relies heavily on volunteers to run its stores, which collectively raise more than £700,000 towards the vital care and support EACH provides for children with life-threatening conditions and their families.

Ian Nicolson, head of retail and trading at EACH, added: “The last ‘Be a Name in our Frame’ brought phenomenal results, with 56 new helpers signing up to support our shops.

“In total, we now have almost 800 volunteers of various different ages and backgrounds supporting our retail operation. They undertake a range of tasks and every single one of them is valued.

“We’re always looking for more people to support us, though. We need individuals with all sorts of different skills to help us run our shops six days a week.

“We find volunteering is a two-way process. Whilst as a charity we gain from the gift of their time, our volunteers make friends and they learn new skills, too.”

For both families accessing care and those who have been bereaved, EACH is a lifeline at an unimaginably difficult time. The charity has to generate 75pc of the money it needs to operate and relies on public support to continue its service.
