Bungay golfers strip off on the green for charity calendar
A group of women have stripped off on the golf green to shoot a charity calendar.
Eighteen members of Bungay and Waveney Valley Golf Club posed around the course with props for the Calendar Girls-inspired shoot. The idea came from ladies’ captain Ruth Reynard who wanted to raise funds for her chosen charity for the year - StreetGames.
She said: “I asked the ladies if there were any volunteers and 18 people said yes.
“I used to be a teacher and there was a Green Room at school so I thought we could do it in there in private. But someone said if we are going to do it we should do it on the course and when I said who wants to do it everyone agreed.
“I was a bit worried before the first shoot whether they would have changed their minds but they all turned up.
“We went out in our dressing gowns and just took our clothes off.”
The women, whose ages range from their 40s up to 80s, started shooting photos in the clubhouse in April, before venturing outside in June for the summer snaps.
“We decorated the conservatory at the golf club with Christmas decorations and we posed with big carol sheets and boxes wrapped in Christmas paper,” said Mrs Reynard.
“When the weather got warmer we went out on the common. We had people on lookout diverting people away and if anyone came over we said you can’t play this hole at the moment.
“Everyone had a marvellous time and they all said they didn’t realise it would be such fun.”
Other shots were taken in one of the members’ Rolls-Royce, polishing the trophies, behind the bar pumps, on a golf buggy and in a bunker.
Local photographer Caroline Bown offered her services for free, and Coriander in Beccles loaned hats for the women to wear.
The 2017 calendar is available to order now for £5.
All profits will go to StreetGames, which helps community organisations across the UK take sport to the doorstep of disadvantaged communities.
Mrs Reynard said: “When I was a teacher I saw children who stayed in school thanks to sport who otherwise would have gone off the rails.
“And the charity has told me the money will go towards helping girls in the Waveney Valley.”
Copies can be pre-ordered by visiting the golf club or by calling 01986 892337.
