A group of lucky pupils engrossed themselves in the culture, food and history of Rome during a recent visit.

In total 33 pupils from Bungay High School ventured to the Italian capital during February half-term as part of a trip organised by the school’s religious department.

A school spokesman said: “On the first day pupils had a guided tour around the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel, where they were able to see the ceiling famously painted by Michelangelo.”

Pupils also took the opportunity to visit St Peter’s Basilica – the largest church in the world.

In the days that followed pupils encountered some of the city’s most famous wonders.

They spent a cold morning taking in the views and history of the Colosseum and the Roman Forum and also found time to visit the Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps.

The spokesman added: “The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful city of Rome, eating Pizza and enjoying ice cream.”
