A young maths teacher from Bungay High School has just had a fantastic result in the World Amateur Duathlon Championships.

Piers Arnold, 25, gained selection to enter the championships for Great Britain after winning the qualifier in Clumber Park and stepped up his training in order to race in the heat of Spain.

The world championships took place in Pontevedra last weekend and Piers gained an amazing sixth place although he firmly believes that if he keeps training hard he could achieve even greater results next year.

The sprint duathlon consists of a 5km run followed by a 20km cycle and finishes with a 2.5km run which is normally Piers strength but the heat of the day took its toll, however, he said he was immensely proud to wear the Team GB kit and represent his country at amateur level.

Students in Piers maths class are used to the fast pace of learning and now are getting used to having a world class age group athlete leading the class.
