As I am writing this it certainly appears spring and even summer has arrived.

Since my last column I have attended a presentation evening with St John Ambulance and it was great to see many young people getting involved and ultimately serving their community.

I then started the various races at the Festival of Running at the Maltings. Although it was a damp morning the amount of runners taking place was amazing. Of course this can only happen with a great deal of organisation and with the help of volunteers so a big congratulations to all those who helped and took part!

As I mentioned before the Town Trust own 13 almshouses in Outney Road and Staithe Close and we are currently looking for expressions of interest from people who may be interested as and when vacancies arise. All of the properties have a separate bedroom and bathroom/wet room. They have been refurbished and provide good quality, low-cost accommodation. Potential residents should be 60+ and from the Bungay area. If you are interested in finding out more please do contact the almshouse chairman Richard Cundy on 01986 893300.

As a user of Facebook it always interests me to see what people are saying about Bungay whether it be bad or good – but recently Bungay was named as one of the best places to live in Suffolk and the UK by the Sunday Times so we must be doing something right! Being born in Bungay, I have always known what a great place it is to live but what makes it for me is the number of organisations there are and the volunteers that work tirelessly for these. There literally is something for everyone if you want to get involved. I urge any of you sitting at home saying there is nothing to do to get out there and find out what our wonderful town has to offer.
