Bungay reunion to mark 450th anniversary of founding of school
A reunion of former students of Bungay Grammar School and Bungay High School is being planned for the summer to help celebrate the 450th anniversary of the founding of the school.
The school is organising a number of events during the year to mark the landmark, and Town Reeve Terry Reeve, an old pupil of the grammar school - which became the high school in 1974 - is organising the re-union as an additional celebration.
The event will be held on Tuesday, July 21, during the annual Bungay Festival, in the marquee at the Castle Meadow, and former students from all eras are welcome. It will begin at noon, and there will be a lunch-time buffet and an evening buffet, as well as a bar throughout the day.
The event will also include a display on the school’s history, and those attending are encouraged to bring along any photographs or school memorabilia they may have, to add to the display.
Mr Reeve said: “I hope it will be a memorable event to mark a memorable anniversary of an outstanding school, and I do hope to see as many former students there to be part of it.
“Most former students will be in touch with others from their era, and once they know about it I hope they will spread the word. There is room in the marquee for over 300 – so let us try to fill it with school friends old and new.”
There will be a charge for each buffet, and donations will be invited for the Town Reeve’s appeal, which is supporting the establishment of a youth choir for Bungay, with several members attending the high school.
