Members of the 1st Bungay Sea Scout group are celebrating after receiving a cheque for £3,000 to pay for replacement kayaks and canoes.
The group, which regularly meets at the Boathouse at the Staithe in Bungay during the summer, signed up for the Lloyds Community Fund event, and after making it into the final four, were voted the winners.
The group battled for public votes against other groups from Bungay, Harleston and Broome. The money will be spent on new kayaks and Canadian canoes to replace a number of old boats which failed a safety test last year. The cheque was presented to scout leader Peter Jermy by Mark Footer, manager of Bungay Lloyds Bank, who congratulated them for their hard work and said he hoped they would enjoy using the new boats in the summer. The group would like to thank all those who voted for them.
Anyone who is interested in joining the sea scouts or becoming a helper can contact David Balls, chairman, on 01986 893827.
