BUNGAY is getting set for the town's third annual street market of the year - the Christmas Market on Sunday, December 7.

As usual, Earsham Street, in the centre of town, will be closed between 7am and 6pm with the market opening at 9am. Once again the demand for stalls has been phenomenal and the market has been fully booked for some time.

There will be over 90 stalls selling a full range of Christmas related goods. A number of stalls will also be selling the usual popular selection of drinks and hot food including John Groom's traditional Hog Roast and The Bahn Thai. The Castle Inn, Fisher Theatre, Kings Head and a number of other local establishments will also be open for those seeking a more substantial drink or snack. St Peter's Brewery will also be selling their famous local ales.

Weather permitting, Father Christmas will be arriving on his horse drawn carriage at 11am and will be welcoming younger visitors in his grotto. Entertainment will be provided including a band, traditional carol singing, and a number of local musicians. The Old Glory Molly Men will be parading through the street in the early afternoon.

Organiser John Pestell said for the last two years the event had been dogged with early appalling weather but, nevertheless, the event still proved very popular with visitors dodging the wind and showers.

“All the markets prove to be a popular attraction for the Town, with attendance from visitors increasing each year. The Christmas market especially, has a unique atmosphere with lights and entertainment. The variety of goods, many of which are produced locally, makes the Christmas Fair makes an enjoyable day out for all the family,” he said.

Free car parking for the Bungay Chamber of Trade event will be available throughout the town. Through HGV traffic should note that they will be unable to travel through the town centre on the day and a diversion will be signposted. Local residents should also be aware that cars should not be parked in Earsham Street overnight on the night before the market as they will need to be moved before 7am when the street closes on the Sunday morning.
