A ceremony to commemorate VJ day took place in Bungay on Saturday, with a plaque unveiled to honour a Far Eastern Prisoner of War.

Saturday marked the 75th anniversary of the victory over Japan, bringing an end to the conflict in the far east.

During the short ceremony, held at Bungay War Memorial, Susan Emeny and John Griffin, the children of L/Cpl Walter B. Griffin of the Suffolk Regiment, unveiled a plaque in their father’s memory.

Deputy Lieutenant for Suffokl, Joanna Spicer, Waveney MP Peter Aldous and district and county councillor David Ritchie were also in attendance.

The Bungay Royal British Legion’s representatives for the ceremony were Tony Dawes and Linda Howe, with president Bob Honeywood reading the exaltation and laying the wreath.

An exhibition was also prepared by museum curator Chris Reeve to mark the anniversary.
