A new campaign is encouraging motorists to ensure their eyesight is in good health while driving in the dark.
The Eye Smart Campaign launched by Observatory the Opticians aims to show how regular eye examinations can spot early signs of conditions such as brain tumours, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, glaucoma and macular degeneration.
Rene Moor, optometrist at the groups Beccles and Southwold practices, said: ““Ensuring your sight is healthy enough for night time driving is extremely important.
“According to National Safety Council statistics traffic death rates are three times higher at night than during the day, so if you are having any difficultly seeing at night it is important to visit an eye care professional.”
He added: “An optometrist can advise a patient of the legal vision standards for driving, if they are likely to meet them or how vision correction could support them in meeting the standard.”
