UNIVERSITY Campus Suffolk (UCS) has been awarded an additional 200 student places in 2010-11 by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE).

UCS is a partnership between the University of East Anglia and the University of Essex, working with Lowestoft College, Great Yarmouth College, Otley College, Suffolk College and West Suffolk College.

HEFCE has invested £19.6m in UCS in recent years, with funds going into the landmark Waterfront building in Ipswich and further campus developments.

Richard Lister, acting chief executive officer at UCS, said: “The support we have received from HEFCE has enabled UCS to grow very rapidly with modern attractive buildings in Ipswich, and for that we are extremely grateful. The additional student numbers we have received will allow us to grow further by developing existing and new courses which will benefit our current and potential students as well as employers and the regional economy.”

The Waterfront building opened in September 2008 and plans are now underway for the second phase of developments at University Quay. Plans are also underway for developments at UCS Bury St Edmunds, UCS Great Yarmouth and UCS Lowestoft.
