A charity shop which supports people living with Parkinson’s has moved to new, larger premises to keep up with its growing popularity.

The store, which operates in aid of Parkinson’s UK, first opened in May last year in Chedgrave’s Langley Road.

However earlier this month, due to overwhelming support from the local community, the shop moved to larger premises further up the road to accommodate the constant stream of donations.

Vickie Cunnane, who set up the store, said: “Even in my wildest dreams I wouldn’t have thought this could happen.

“We had so much stuff we couldn’t afford to keep buying up storage space.”

She added: “We are now selling more because we have more storage space. We can now sell furniture, which is at a higher price, because we have the room.

“The new shop has been doing brilliantly – we have doubled the takings.

“We used to be taking between £40 and £60 a day and now we are getting between £120 and £200.”

The shop sells a wide range of items including, clothes, furniture, books and children’s toys.

It also provides a forum for people suffering from Parkinson’s to gain advice and information on living with the disease.

Mrs Cunnane has been suffering from Parkinson’s for almost eight years and said the success of the store has provided “a huge personal boost”.

She said: “People are being incredibly generous with the quality of things they have been giving.

“The support and warmth from the community is fantastic.

“It is very much a community shop; people come in all the time to have a cup of tea and a chat.”

Mrs Cunnane added: “It has become part of the community and that’s fantastic.”

She also praised the volunteers working to make the store what it is, from humble beginnings the shop now boasts 15 volunteers.

Simon Peck, landlord of The White Horse pub in the village, was on hand to cut the ribbon at the shop’s official opening.

In the last year the pub has donated more than £2,000 raised through monthly charity quiz nights. The new store is now based in 2 Langley Road. It is open between 10am and 4pm from Tuesday to Friday and from 10am to 2pm on Saturdays.
