Children at Barnby and North Cove Primary School took a copy of their favourite book to school and dressed up as a character from their book on World Book Day.

During assembly the children looked at each other's costumes and told the school who they were dressed up as. Jill Dempster, the headteacher, dressed up as Miss Jump the jockey, from the book, Miss Jump the Jockey, written by Allan Ahlberg and Andre Amstutz. The Key Stage Two children wrote stories and read them to the younger children. Key Stage One children did book reviews and read lots of books.

Ms Dempster said the school had a system to encourage children to read at home. Children receive a sticker on a bookmark if they read at home three times in a week. When the bookmark is full, they receive a special certificate in the Friday Well Done assembly.
