A BUSY junction that is frequently crossed by school children in Bungay has been without street lighting for nearly four months.

Six street lamps in St Margaret's Road, which run up to a junction with Flixton Road and Upper Olland Street, went off when a substation owned by EDF Energy in Boyscott Lane exploded in August and left the entire town without energy.

However whilst most of Bungay was back in action 24 hours later, the street lamps in St Margaret's Road have never come back on- leaving a busy junction without street lighting.

Kevin Ling, who lives in Mountbatten Road, said: “There's a lot of articulated traffic going through there now because they stopped trucks coming through the centre of town. There are always lorries roaring up and down the road.

“I go in and out there two or three times a day and you take your life into your own hands anyway when you pull out of St Margaret's Road- you can't see up the Halesworth way.”

Mr Ling's two young children go to Bungay Primary and Bungay Middle respectively, and use the crossing everyday on their way to school.

“It's quite dark for the school children,” said Mr Ling, 38. “I think one day there'll be an accident if it's not fixed.”

A spokesperson for EDF said: “EDF Energy Networks is sorry to hear of the worry caused by street lights not working in St Margaret's Road, Bungay. We had no record of any problems being reported to us until learning about them this week.

“Today (November 19) we have sent an engineer to the road to check the electricity distribution network in the area. If he finds there is a fault on our network then we hope to have the lights working again in the next few days.”
