Diamond couple's love is still growing

After sixty years of marriage, nothing has changed for a couple who have celebrated their diamond anniversary.
Maureen and Harry Blackman, who live in Burgh St Peter, met whilst living in London in 1953, and the following 62 years have brought them three children, six grandchildren and one great grandchild - with one more due in the next few weeks.
They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on March 26, after tying the knot at a church on a cold windy day in Stevenage in 1955.
The pair met while attending evening sessions at the same leisure club in London where Mrs Blackman would take part in ballroom dancing, while Mr Blackman would be with the men boxing.
Mrs Blackman said: “The guys would often come watch the ladies when they would do ballroom dancing and we would also go and see them when they did their boxing.
“It was from there really that we got introduced and started talking.
“Harry asked me out and our first date was going down to the cinema, though I really wish I could remember what film it was.
“Growing up Harry worked as a cab driver and we were both publicans but for the most part of the time I would stay at home looking after my three daughters.”
After living in London for several years, they moved to Crawley and then Peterhead in Scotland which was where they spent the longest period of their relationship.
They eventually moved down to Norfolk in June 2013 where they now live with Mrs Blackman’s sister.
Many marriages struggle to last the test of time, but sixty years on for Mr and Mrs Blackman, not much has changed since the day that they were married.
Mrs Blackman said: “There is really not much to it, we enjoy spending time together and it is all about being nice and a bit of give and take - he gives and I take I like to joke.”
Mr Blackman added: “Every relationship goes through their ups and downs but you have to work on them moments and if you can make it out the other side of that then they are the relationships that work.”
The pair celebrated their anniversary by going for a pub meal with their daughters and a champagne celebration at home.
