From the air it is clearly a very large dinosaur, but from the ground all you can see is masses of maize.

This maize maze at Hedenham, which opened to the public on Friday, is set in 15 acres of land at Brickyard Farm and takes two hours to navigate its spiky tail and giant feet.

Farm manager John Barrett first started creating the labyrinth three months ago. He said: “We planted the maize in April and then cut out the dinosaur a couple of weeks later.”

Using a satellite - similar to the SatNav you have in a car - the route of the maize was marked out in the field and then the crop was chopped to make the pathway.

Once in the maze, visitors can take part in a giant “word search”, seeking letters hidden around the path which spells out a dinosaur name.

Mr Barrett, from Sentry Farms, said: “On average it can take two hours to do it. Some people won't find them all and will just choose to walk round, but it is a challenge.”

There is also a 45m aerial slide, ride on tractors, a nature trail and trampolines for children to enjoy while their parents relax at picnic benches.

This is the third year Mr Barrett has done this - in previous years visitors have had to negotiate a carbon footprint and a cow - and he expects about 3,000 people to visit over the summer.

The maze is open from 10am to 6pm everyday until the end of August and tickets cost £3 for children and £2 for adults. For more information call 07970 549036.
