Ducks prepare to paddle in Bungay river race
Final preparations are under way for the second Great Bungay Duck Race, held on Sunday, July 10, as part of the two-week Bungay Festival.
Local businesses have been busy decorating their ducks in the hope of winning the “best dressed duck” award at the fancy dress competition, or scooping a medal in the business duck race.
And the Beccles and Bungay Journal team have prepared their own newspaper-themed duck for the occasion.
The event will be raising funds for Falcon Meadow, where the races are being held.
Event organiser Tony Dawes said: “We are planning a fun-packed day, starting from 11am, with activities and entertainment both on Falcon Meadow and on the river.
“There will be canoeing as well as the three duck races on the water, and on land there’s lots of games, activities, live music, food and drink to enjoy. By popular request, this year we’ve booked both a bouncy castle and a beer tent!”
Remembering Bungay’s Black Shuck legend of the ghostly dog that wreaked havoc in the town in middle ages, the Earsham Street Fish Company are sponsoring something rather tamer in the form of the Black Shuck Duck. It will be allocated a random number in the duckling race, with whoever wins getting to enjoy a performance at the Fisher Theatre.
