With the domestic football season drawing to a close, all eyes turned to the Waveney Valley as the annual Dwile Flonking tournament returned.

Held on Saturday, May 18, teams congregated at the Locks Inn, Geldeston for the chaotic ritual, which sees teams dance around each other while attempting to avoid a beer-soaked dwile, or cloth.

With spectators drunk on summer sunshine and newbie teams giving enthusiastic performances, jobanowl (referee) Yanny Mac tried his utmost to prevent complete anarchy.

First-timers The Wainford Wanglers and Norwich 'We Are Premier League' City exited early, with the latter losing out to Beccles by a record score of 25-0.

And it was Beccles who reclaimed their crown, with captain David Brambley-Crawshaw sealing victory in a match-up packed with over-exuberance.

"We've seen this sort of behaviour in the past and I was rather hoping it was gone for good," said Mr Mac. "TV rights and over-inflated egos have changed the complexion of this glorious rural pastime.

"Well done to Beccles. Thoroughly deserved and rather unexpected given their collective age of 524."
