TRAFFIC police in Suffolk yesterday said they would not be resting on their laurels, despite seeing a decrease in drink drive cases over the Christmas period.
The constabulary's month-long campaign saw the number of motorists caught drink driving in December drop by 1.3pc, compared to the same period in 2008.
During the whole of last month, Suffolk Police officers conducted 1,416 breath tests, of which 95 - 6.7pc - proved to be over the drink drive limit.
In December 2008, 8pc of those breath tested on the county's roads were positive.
Chief Insp Mike Bacon, of the roads policing unit said: “Obviously it is encouraging that the overall percentage of those drink driving has reduced, however these statistics are still too high and there is no room for complacency.”
“Those offending need to realise the implications of what they are doing, not just for their own sake but for the sake of the other innocent road users they are putting at risk.”
