THE passenger who died in a crash near Beccles in the early hours of Sunday has been named as Brian Hunter-Lindsay.

Mr Hunter-Lindsay, who was 46 and from Beccles, died after the Porsche 911 Targa he was a passenger in left the road at Worlingham just before 2.45am and collided with roadside trees and vegetation.

The car then returned to the road where there was a second collision involving a green Vauxhall Astra.

Emergency services were called to the scene and the 40-year-old man who was driving the Porsche was taken to the James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston, where he received treatment for minor injuries. The driver, also from Beccles, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He was interviewed by officers and has now been bailed to return to Lowestoft Police Station on May 23.

A female passenger in the Astra was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The A146 was closed until 12.45pm while forensic investigation took place at the scene.

Police want to speak to anyone who saw the Porsche or the Vauxhall before the crashes, anyone who saw the incident, or who passed the scene in the early hours.

They particularly need to speak to the drivers of at least two cars that were believed to have been heading towards Lowestoft and passed the Porsche before the second collision, as it is thought they would have had to drive through debris on the road.

Any witnesses should call the serious collision investigation team on 01473 613500.
