BECCLES father and son pistol shooters Andy and Eddie Graver came a step closer to competing in the 2010 Commonwealth Games after being named in the Commonwealth Games Pistol Academy.

The pair from Bluebell Way are two of only eight pistol shooters in the academy - members could potentially take part in the prestigious competition in Delhi, India.

Father and son will now take part in one training session away a month, which will include training abroad to get used to climates such as India's.

The academy was formed by Tom Redhead, the English national pistol coach, and also includes Mick Gault, who is from Norfolk and is England's most successful Commonwealth games athlete, and another Commonwealth shooting regular Nicholas Baxter.

Andy, 43, said: “We were so over the moon about it. It's a first for both of us to be included. If we do get to go to the games it will be the first I've ever known of a father and son going to the games together, and we're hopeful we can do it.”

The good news was given to them after a successful weekend at the British Airgun Championships in Bisley last month.

Eddie, 14, who goes to the Sir John Leman High School in Beccles, came first in his category in three competitions, was in the winning junior England team and also the winning club team, Norwich City Target Club ,with his father.

Meanwhile Andy won the ASI/Feinwerkbau cup, three re-entry competitions and was in the winning senior men's England team.
