Footage captured by a man on Garden Close reveals the scale of the police presence in Bungay after a man made threats with a 'bladed article'.

The video shows more than a dozen police cars and vans parked on the road.

A police helicopter can also be seen circling above and some neighbours can be seen standing in their doorways and congregating on the pavements.

A spokesman for Suffolk Police said officers, including armed police, were called at around 2.30pm on Saturday over an incident of suspected road rage, which ended up inside a nearby property.

'The incident started off as a motoring offence and ended up inside a property on Garden Close,' a spokesman for the force said.

'There was a fairly large police response and the reason for the firearms deployment was threats were made by a male with a bladed article.

'We attended and managed and defused the situation and a male in his 20s was detained.'

Two officers sustained minor injuries during the incident, which had come to an end by 4.30pm.

Inspector Richard Gubbins said: 'The premises was contained and the occupants came out when requested. A male remains in custody.

'We would like to thank the public for their patience while we resolved this incident and enquiries continue.'

Mick Burr moved to Garden Close from Kent seven months ago, and Saturday was the first time he had seen any police cars on the street.

He said: 'We saw a police BMW estate pull up and turn round outside our house but didn't think a lot of it.

'We went to go out about an hour later when we saw all the commotion down the road.

'The atmosphere was pretty calm considering the amount of police at the scene and the amount of officers walking around with guns.

'We counted at least five armed response units, including fully suited up and armed to the teeth officers all in black balaclavas.

'At the height of it all we counted 15 different police vehicles including a dog unit, plus the helicopter.

'I've seen plenty of police incidents before, but never with this many armed officers on the scene.'

Another neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous, agreed that the atmosphere seemed surprisingly calm.

She said: 'I didn't feel threatened, most of us were stood around chatting. I think most people thought it was quite exciting really, sort of like an event.

'It seemed rather excessive though, they were everywhere.'

But not everyone on the street felt the response seemed overboard, with another anonymous neighbour arguing that having too many police on the scene was preferable to not having enough.

She said: 'If they're making threats with a knife or whatever then you don't know what else they might have or what else they might do.

'I was worried though because my Asda delivery was coming and the whole road was blocked off.

'I tried calling and couldn't get through, but the delivery driver had taken it upon himself to carry all my shopping up from Beccles Road through all the armed police, which was amazing.'
