A former RAF serviceman celebrated his 102nd birthday in Beccles this week.

Philip Chatterley, who lives at The White House residential care home, celebrated on February 19 with a tea party and a visit by representatives from the Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum.

Mr Chatterley, who was born in Chester, was employed by the RAF, where he trained people to undertake radio repairs.

Originally from Chester, Mr Chatterley is a gifted mathematician and engineer who enjoys listening to classical music, reading the news and receiving regular visits from his daughters, Joan and Margaret. He has lived at The White House since 2005.

Julie Knights, Manager at The White House said: “It’s been marvellous celebrating Philip’s 102nd birthday.

“He is a delightful character who has never lost his love for all things engineering and mechanical.”
