Schools across the Waveney Valley are celebrating another good year of GCSE results.

Pupils and staff at Sir John Leman High School were celebrating another year of exceptional results with 67pc of pupils achieving A* to C grades, including English and maths, a 7pc increase on last year, and 73pc achieving five A* to C grades in all subjects.

Overall the percentage of pupils achieving A* to C grades has increased by 18pc since 2012.

Headteacher Jeremy Rowe said: 'We are thrilled with our results. For the third year in a row our results are the best the school has ever achieved.'

Mr Rowe said he was also particularly proud of Year 8 pupil Maddy Workman, aged 13, who took her Latin GCSE and achieved an A*.

Beccles Free School, which moved to its permanent home in the town last September, announced its first set of GCSE results, with 39pc of pupils achieving five A* to C grades including English and Maths. 29pc achieved the English Baccalaureate (EBacc) performance measure, which is A* to C grades in the five core EBacc subjects - English, maths, history or geography, the sciences and a language.

'Whilst we are disappointed with the overall results, a number of students have received outstanding results and each individual should be congratulated for their hard work and achievement,' said Headteacher Nigel Youngman.

Angelo Goduti, headteacher at Bungay High School, said he was 'delighted' with the achievements of many of his pupils with 47pc of students getting A* to C grades including English and maths, the same as last year, and 61pc achieving A* to C grades.

Mr Goduti said: 'We are delighted with the excellent achievement of a number of individuals. We are pleased that the hard work of students has been recognised through improved individual results.'

A 'fantastic set of results' were seen at Hobart High with 64pc of pupils achieving five A* to C grades including English and Maths, an improvement of 5pc on last year's grades.

And 73pc achieved five A* to C grades in all subjects, down 1pc on last year.

Headteacher Sam Griffin: 'These are a fantastic set of results for a year group who have been a delight to work with. The results come from a great deal of hard work from students, staff and parents.'

And at Langley School 72.5pc achieved five A* to C grades including English and maths, a 0.5pc improvement on last year, with 95pc achieving five A*s to C in all subjects, down 2pc on last year.

'We are so pleased and proud for all our students and staff on achieving yet another very high five A* to C percentage, especially as this cohort of students accounted for our largest ever year group by some 25 students,' said Headmaster Dominic Findlay.
