Teachers and pupils at Thurlton Primary School have been praised by Ofsted inspectors who awarded the school “good” status in all six areas.

Inspectors also concluded that the south Norfolk school, which has 97 pupils, excelled in behaviour, safety, working in partnership with others and the welfare of children in Early Years Foundation Stage.

The school, which the report said had improved since its previous inspection, was described as having a “family atmosphere” which helped children to feel safe, as well as good attendance and good teaching and leadership.

Headteacher Simon Cornish said: “We aspire for all our children to become confident, secure, caring individuals who achieve personal success and develop a love of learning and this report proves that we are achieving our ambition.

“Our success is down to the hard work and dedication of all of our staff, pupils, governors and parents as well as all those who support the school. I am particularly pleased that Ofsted has recognised the support we offer our pupils as this helps them enjoy their time at school and really thrive in the classroom.”

The report advised the school to make writing more enjoyable and improve the checking of progress across the school and promoting the understanding of other cultures.

Although it said that standards reached by pupils were “broadly average to below average”, it added that children made good progress.
