A town’s annual gardening awards ceremony has recognised the year-round efforts of keen Halesworth gardeners.

Halesworth in Bloom’s handed out a number of awards to volunteers, residents and businesses for their efforts throughout the year.

Staff and volunteers at Halesworth Library were awarded most significant contribution to the group, while the White Hart Pub was recognised as having the best business floral frontage.

Rowley Sharpe claimed the award for best allotment, while Anne Crosland of Holmer Driver was crowned best front garden.

First Choice Home Care were named as best newcomer in the awards.

Stephanie Hammond, of Halesworth in Bloom, said: “Identifying the best front gardens is not an easy task and is not, as they say, comparing apples with apples.

“As well as wanting to encourage planting that is pleasing to passers-by, we aim to recognise the individualism, sustainability and planting that is insect-friendly and drought-resistant.

“Differences in size do not matter.

“To any Halesworth gardener whose patch or window box was overlooked, we offer apologies and invite nominations of attractive front gardens for next year’s awards.”
