The streets of Halesworth were transformed last weekend as a bustling fair showcased something for everyone.

After the last Halesworth Street Fair had been held in 2012, the event made a successful return to the town’s calendar once more on Sunday as hundreds of people turned out.

Wood turners, artists, poets, musicians, craft and jewellery makers were among those showcasing their skills alongside some of the best local food and drink producers.

The event was organised by Miles Berry to help raise funds for local activities and organisations. Admitting the fair was back with a “slight reinvention” on previous years, he was “delighted” with the turnout.

Mr Berry, who lives in Halesworth and works at The Cut arts centre, said: “I want to try and build it up so it’s even bigger each year, but I am really pleased with how it has gone – it appears to have been a big success.”

Even a bit of rain did not deter visitors. Mr Berry added: “By 1pm, about 1,000 people had walked through the street. Lots of people have been saying well done and how it was nice to have the fair back again. It is about putting on something for the town, which is free, and showcasing what is good about Halesworth and the surrounding area as there are a lot of great artists and crafts people here.”

Around 20 shops opened for the occasion, adding to the 25 stalls offering something for everyone – with local schools and organisations also joining in.

Musicians, singers and performers all took to the stage, while children’s workshops – including making crafts, storytelling, and making your own story stick – ran all day.

With the music continuing well into the evening in The White Hart pub, the event was hailed as a resounding success – with A Poem For Halesworth even created on the day.

Mr Berry said: “Representatives from the Poetry Trust read out the poem after asking people’s thoughts on Halesworth, and getting them to sum up their views in a couple of lines, which were then pulled together and made into a poem.”
