From tomorrow and for the rest of the month, people up and down the country will be shaving their heads for charity.
Three people from the Waveney area will be taking part in Brave the Shave to do their bit for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Michelle Pitchers from Beccles will be having her shaved at Bungay Pool and Gym on August 24 and is inviting people along to watch.
The 39-year-old will be saying goodbye to her long hair, which comes down to her hips, and hello to a grade one cut.
“I’m looking forward to it as I’ve never done anything different with my hair,” said Ms Pitchers, who works as a uniformed public services teacher at East Norfolk Sixth Form College in Gorleston. “I’m looking forward to experimenting. I’m also excited to seeing my student’s faces when we return. They have never seen me without my hair in a bun so they’ll be shocked.”
Ms Pitchers said she heard about the event on the radio and was compelled to do something for charity after losing her sister-in-law and her best friend’s mother to the disease.
She said: “I’ve never really done anything to raise money for charity. I didn’t really think about how much it impacts family until I knew people who died from it. But cancer takes people away from their families too soon.”
Ms Pitchers will also be donating her hair to the Little Princess Trust which provides real hair wigs to children who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment.

And if you are in Bungay town centre on August 27 then keep an eye out for Ray Spink and Doug Skilling who will also be having their heads shaved outside Boots.
“We’ve got a friend, Wayne, who is terminally ill with cancer,” said Mr Skilling. “He’ll have Macmillan help him.”
Mr Spink, who is a barman at The Swan in the town, currently has green hair and 50-year-old Mr Skilling has grown his hair ready for the challenge.
“I’ve never done it before and I’m looking forward to it in a funny way. We are going the full hog and having our hair completely shaved off.
“We’ve named the event ‘good to the bone’ and we’ll have buckets for collections on the day.”
