A HEADTEACHER who runs two schools has been praised for her “outstanding leadership skills”.

Ofsted inspectors who visited Ellingham Primary School said that Pauline McGowan: “has successfully created a team of staff who share her vision for the school and show a high level of commitment to the pupils”.

Overall the school was rated as good, which is the second highest Ofsted rating.

Inspector Ruth Frith said: “With enjoyment at the heart of what the school aims for, staff provide pupils with a wide range of opportunities and experiences which support their academic progress and personal development well.

“Pupils are proud of their school and thoroughly enjoy their learning. This is reflected in their above average rate of attendance. Pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is outstanding.”

The report adds that pupils make an “outstanding contribution to the community”.

The school works closely with nearby Woodton Primary School, which is also led by Mrs McGowan.

The report describes the partnership as “excellent” and says this means the strengths of leaders and managers are used effectively for the benefit of both schools.

Mrs McGowan said she was “very pleased” with the report and praised staff and parents for their efforts.
