THE Halesworth Christmas lights switch-on will take place on Saturday December 6, it was announced this week.

It is hoped that this year's event will be bigger and better than ever before, with the team behind Halesworth's Gig in the Park music festival lending their support.

The event has received a considerable amount of money from John Marshall-Potter and his team at Gig in the Park, and they will also be providing valuable technical support, alongside electricians from local company Pearce and Kemp.

The Town council have also donated considerable funds to this event and are represented on the committee, along with Halesworth Business Connections, the Town Centre Group and the management from Pearce and Kemp.

The Gig in the Park team will be also be erecting a stage in the market place for the event.

Festivities will start just after 4pm when the Southwold and Reydon Corps of Drums depart from Rectory Street leading a procession including Father Christmas and The Beach Bunny, mascot of Beach Radio based in Lowestoft.

On arrival at The White Hart Inn, the band will play two carols prior to speeches and the switching-on of the lights by Santa and the Beach Bunny.

The band will then lead the procession along The Thoroughfare to the market place, where again they will play two carols prior to a “surprise” event.

The much-admired Lee Vasey Orchestra will then play for one and a half hours prior to setting off to Norwich for a further engagement.

Meanwhile on Sunday November 23 the committee and volunteers will commence to erect Christmas trees in The Thoroughfare and elsewhere in the town, and after the Christmas lights switch-on.
