An historic wherry will be sailing down to Suffolk for the Beccles Charter Weekend.

The Wherry Maud started its working life in Great Yarmouth in 1899 and is the last of the clinker-built trading wherries to sail on the Norfolk Broads.

The boat will be moored at Hipperson’s Boatyard in Gillingham Dam, where there will also be live music, boat rides, water bicycles and refreshments.

Author Chris Crowther will also be on-board on Sunday reading extracts from his new book, Timecruiser, at 2pm and 3.30pm.

Mr Crowther will also be happy to answer questions and sign copies of the book.

The Beccles Charter Weekend is a free, family-friendly celebration of fun, culture, music, boat rides and history.

Events will be held at Beccles Museum, Beccles Tower, the Town Hall, St Michael’s Church and many more venues across the town.

The event takes place from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, June 30, and Sunday, July 1.
