The South Elmham and District Local History Group has invited other Suffolk based groups to exhibit at St Margaret South Elmham Village Hall, during what promises to be an interesting array of artefacts, photographs and memorabilia.

There will be an opportunity to find more out about your ancestors, the history of your house, as well as leaf through many old photos and relics.

One of the exhibitors is the Suffolk Family History Society, who will be on hand to give advice on tracing your family tree or perhaps help with a sticking point with your research already in progress.

The group, founded in 1975, is a registered charity and a member of the Federation of Family History Societies.

They have been very busy transcribing birth, marriage and burial records in Suffolk over many years.

A display by the Suffolk Institute for Archaeology and History of their archaeological finds will have a variety of field walking pieces on show and may also be able to help with other peoples’ local discoveries.

The four local market towns will be comprehensively covered by the museums from Beccles and Halesworth, who will have displays, along with the Harleston Historical Society and Bungay Society.

The South Elmham and District Local History Group will be putting on their own display of maps, photographs and artefacts of the South Elmham’s and other local areas, together with some inventories recently transcribed by their inventory group, which incorporates a list of the personal belongings, goods and chattels of a deceased person, together with the valuation.

More than 100 South Elmham inventories have been transcribed for the period from the mid 1500’s to 1800’s - a great source of research for both family and house history.

The smaller villages of Pulham Market, St Margaret South Elmham and Ilketshall St Lawrence will also have stands, which will display village life in the past.

There will be light lunches, delicious cakes, teas and refreshments served all day and the entrance will be £1 with accompanied children free.

It takes place from 10am until 4pm.
