A POLICE plan to build a new investigation centre in Yarmouth to serve the Norfolk and Suffolk border area is expected to be given the green light on Tuesday night.

The Norfolk Police Authority wants to build the centre, which will house up to 60 staff, on derelict land at Thamesfield Way, in Southtown, as part of the force's estate and facility improvement plan.

If approved, the building will have detention facilities and interview rooms for use by officers from both counties.

It is one of five planned by Norfolk and Suffolk police.

Yarmouth Borough Council's development control committee is to discuss the plans on Tuesday, with planning officers recommending the project be approved.

Planning officers say the plans should be approved as it will create jobs and will improve the area.
