Officers are continuing to investigate the deaths of three people on village roads in Suffolk.

The latest deaths mean that since late October, five people have been killed in the past few weeks in Waveney and Suffolk Coastal.

Police said that a man killed when the van he was driving crashed into The Crown Inn, in Bridge Street, Snape on Thursday afternoon, was 46 and he was from the local area. He is yet to be officially named.

Two people who were found dead in the burnt wreckage of a car in Primrose Lane, Frostenden, have not been formally identified.

Officers were called to Snape at about 2.20pm on Thursday afternoon. Road closures remained in place at the crossroads of Bridge Road, Church Road, Priory Road and Gromford Lane well into the night as collision investigations were carried out.

Firefighters were the first on scene at Frostenden, following reports of a vehicle on fire in Primrose Lane at 1.14am on Thursday morning.

They had the blaze under control within half-an-hour but were unable to save the victims, who were both pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed to traffic all of Thursday morning and into the afternoon for a collision investigation to take place.

Suffolk County councillor for Halesworth, Tony Goldson, said the news of the Frostenden crash was a 'terrible shock'.

'My thoughts go out to the families of those involved in such a terrible accident,' he said.

'We don't yet know the cause, and will have to wait until we do before recommending anything.

'It's a terrible shock', he added.

The two accidents took the total number of fatalities on Suffolk's roads in 2015 to 30 – the same number as were killed in the county in the whole of 2014.

And since the end of October, five people have now been killed in road accidents in Suffolk.
