TWO goals from Rory French in four second-half minutes gave Bungay a double over Caister at the Maltings Meadow ahead of tomorrow's visit to Mattishall in an Anglian Combination Division One top-four clash.

It looked as if they would go on to win more comfortably, but they missed some good chances and Caister performed much better after the interval. But the three points consolidated the Black Dogs' position in the top four.

Again the defence was sound and the mid-field creative, while Tom Amis got through a mountain of work up front and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet as Bungay recorded their third successive win under player-manager Lee Henwood.

Caister created the first real chance of the game when the ball fell to a forward 10 yards out, but he fired wide. At the other end, from a similar chance, Paul Bullen's shot was too high before a timely interception by Paul Hunter thwarted a dangerous attack from Caister.

Bungay took the lead on 24 minutes when Amis got away down the right and his low cross was turned in from close range by French.

Four minutes later French made it 2-0 as a defender could only head a teasing cross from Hunter down to his feet, and the cracked home.

Craig Hunting cleared a Caister effort off the line, but Bungay were looking good going forward with Hunter and Neil Renaut at the hub of things. Danny Wilby had a chance from a good ball by Hunter, only to be robbed by a desperate tackle from a defender.

French had a great chance to complete his hat-trick but completely mishit his shot after persistent work by Amis had set up the chance.

Then a good move involving Hunter and Wilby almost set up a third goal, but Wilby's pass was just too far ahead of the inrushing French.

Amis was sent clear by French but the keeper made a fine save from his powerful shot and before the interval the keeper did well to keep out another French effort.

The second half opened with the keeper dashing from his area to just reach the ball before French, and when Bullen was put clear he cut in, only to see his short come out off the angle of post and bar.

Caister were more organised, and with the Black Dogs' final ball often letting them down, chances were fewer, though Amis brought a diving save from the keeper from Wilby's low cross. Two timely interceptions by Renaut helped to keep Bungay's fifth clean sheet of the season.

Team: J Bligh, S Campbell, C Hunting, S Payne, T Daniels, P Bullen (E Collings) , P Hunter, N Renaut, D Wilby, T Amis, R French (L Henwood).

Tomorrow, Bungay Reserves are at home to Poringland Reserves (2).
