The tastes of Beccles and beyond were showcased yesterday in the town’s second annual Food and Drink Festival.

Hundreds of visitors browsed stalls set up in the town centre, inside St Michael’s Church and in the Public Hall to see what local producers had to offer.

Well-known local brands like Fen Farm Dairy, Stokes Sauces, St Peter’s Brewery and Parravani’s Ice Cream set up alongside new businesses including The Tiny Tipple Co and Macaron Bliss.

And visitors could follow a grazing trail around the town to discover all the exhibitors set up for the day, as well as what else Beccles has to offer.

It was opened by chef Richard Bainbridge, owner and head chef at Benedicts Norwich and winner of last year’s BBC Two Great British Menu television show.

Declaring the festival officially open yesterday morning, he said: “It’s an important food and drink festival in the heart of Beccles which has just blown me away.”

The event is organised by the Beccles Food and Drink Festival Committee - a sub committee of the Beccles Business and Tourism Association.

Co-organiser Karen Robson, who runs Saltgate House B&B, said: “The ethos behind the festival is that it’s a free event for the whole family.

“We wanted to showcase beautiful Beccles and with the grazing trail you do meander through the town discovering all the quirky alley ways and all the independent businesses.

“It’s embracing what’s great about Beccles and the town was buzzing.”
